NEPUMUK - DUKE OF WYRMSTONE
Nepumuk wants to be the biggest, strongest and bravest dragon in the whole world. He practises his roar every day and tells his friends stories about heroic deeds that he performs at night when the other dragon children are all sleeping peacefully.
What his friends don't know, however, is that Nepumuk has never actually committed a night-time heroic deed. He is terrified of the dark. As soon as the last rays of sunlight sink into the horizon outside the dragon's cave, he is seized by fear and hides behind a rocky outcrop, shivering and trembling. There he curls up and listens to the howling of the wind and the rustling of the treetops outside the cave with his ears pricked up in fear. He finds it difficult to fall asleep because every crackle and pop startles him. It must be a monster!
To get through the night, Nepumuk closes his eyes tightly and imagines himself far, far away from the darkness. He then dreams up stories in which he is the hero and protects the world from the darkness monsters. When Nepumuk wakes up the next morning, he is almost convinced that his dreams really happened - until the moon rises again in the evening and the game repeats itself. Perhaps the darkness would be easier to bear if Nepumuk had someone by his side to hold his claw at night. Together they could conquer their fear of the dark and turn their dreams of heroism into reality!
